Sitting, sitting, working hard. Who would notice those hamstrings and hips getting tight? Let's take care of that right now:
Remind yourself while you do this stretch to keep your abdominals engaged and stable, not moving your low back. Keep your chest lifted for the most successful stretch.
Sit up straight and tall, both feet flat on the floor in front of you, with your shoulders as far down your back as you can manage. Take a deep breath in, filling your belly, then as you exhale take your abdominals in and keep them engaged. (It feels like you're trying to put on one size smaller pants.) Even as you breathe you want to keep your abdominals engaged.
So far: sit tall, feet in parallel in front of you, shoulders down, abdominals engaged, still breathing.
Now, inhale deeply as you lift your right leg off the floor, until the knee is straight. Leave the right upper leg on the chair and exhale firmly as you flex your right foot through the heel, abdominals still engaged. Your upper body is 90 degrees to your lifted right leg with that foot flexed. Now relax your right foot back to the floor and repeat 4 times with this leg.
Next side:
Inhale deeply as you lift your left leg off the floor, until the knee is straight. Leave the left upper leg on the chair and exhale as you flex your left foot through the heel, abdominals still engaged. Your upper body is 90 degrees to your lifted left leg with that foot flexed. Now relax your left foot back to the floor and repeat 4 times on this side.
It's a bit rainy today, a perfect chance to enjoy a walk with an umbrella. Remember to drink some water!
See you soon.
