It's another beautiful Monday morning and the coffee (or tea maybe?) didn't quite get you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Try my favorite wake up stretch:
As you inhale, reach your right arm straight up, along side your ear, no bend in your elbow. Put an imaginary marker in your right hand and, as you exhale slowly, try to draw a line on the ceiling above you going to your direct left. This will help you to lift, not collapse as you stretch. Make your line overhead about 3 feet long or a bit longer if you can. Inhale as you bring your arm and body back to straight up, and then relax your arm down.
Next side:
As you inhale, reach your left arm straight up, along side your ear, no bend in your elbow. Put an imaginary marker in your left hand and, as you exhale slowly, try to draw a line on the ceiling above you going to your direct right. Keep your marker in mind, so you lift, not collapse as you stretch. Make your line overhead about 3 feet long or a bit longer if you can. Inhale as you bring your arm and body back to straight up, and then relax your arm down.
There, now that's better. Your eyes are brighter already!
Repeat on each side, and try it again this afternoon maybe a bit after lunch when a nap sounds good.
